About
Kid Safety Index exists to reorder attention around real, preventable harm — from a newborn's first night to a new graduate's first apartment — and to make the next safest action obvious, without trading on fear.
You may have arrived via babysafetyindex.com — same project, wider age range.
The problem we're answering
Families are targeted by marketing, viral anecdotes, and product claims, which inverts attention: people over-focus on rare, vivid dangers and under-focus on the statistically larger ones — and those larger risks change completely with age. The antidote isn't more fear. It's better-ordered information.
Our editorial firewall
- No paid rankings. Position is set by data, never by anyone who could pay.
- Free steps first. Behavior and environment changes that cost nothing precede products.
- Products are optional tools, never guarantees. Some hazards list none.
- No claim stronger than the evidence. Thin or contested data is labeled.
- No fear copy, no dark patterns. Calm and useful beats alarming and shareable — especially on suicide, overdose, and violence.
How revenue would work — transparently
If the site ever carries affiliate links to pay for hosting and data refreshes, every one will be labeled, offered across multiple retailers, and shown only after the free and behavioral steps. The north-star metric is trust, not affiliate revenue.
